NEWS SHEET

This will have a distinct British flavour about it, and will also feature the organ in two works, Handel's organ concerto "The Cuckoo and the Nightingale" and Saint-Saens' very popular Organ Symphony. These will be performed twice, once in Albrighton in October, and later in Walsall Town Hall in November, the latter in celebration of the centenary of the Town Hall organ. On both occasions the organ will be played by Toby Barnard, who recently has taken over as musical director of Walsall Choral Society. Both concerts will also feature Hamish McCunn's tuneful overture "Land of the Mountain and the Flood" which was used as the signature tune for BBC TV's "Sutherland's Law" for those who remember that series!
For the Walsall concert on Sunday November 16th (3.00 pm - please note the day and time!) we are very pleased to welcome the choir from St. Peter's Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton who will sing in Parry's "I Was Glad" and Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs. We are also pleased to welcome John Thorne who will sing the baritone solo in the Vaughan Williams.
In March we return to Cranmer Methodist Church when we welcome back the brilliant young violinist Rhys Watkins for a performance of Sibelius' violin concerto in a concert that also includes works by Berlioz, Dag Wiren and Bizet.
Finally, the British theme is maintained in our summer concert in Codsall Community High School when we shall give an all British concert with works by Vaughan Williams, Butterworth and Holst, and Elgar's First Symphony.

Erratum
At our recent concert at Cranmer Methodist Church on 21st June 2008, we issued some pink brochures giving details of our next season. Unfortunately these contained an error in that they stated incorrectly that our March 7th concert is to be at St. Peter's Collegiate Church.
In fact our March 7th concert will be at Cranmer Methodist Church, as stated here on the website.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
